Hi, it’s me again, Carlo.
Back in April I showed you my scrappy little menu-bar app that listened to whatever music was playing around your Mac. A few of you sent me lots of good feedback on it — thank you for that. After several more months (and 13 beta versions), it’s done:
🚀 Listening Post v2026.1 is out today!
It also grew well beyond that first idea. What started as an always-on Mac scrobbler is now a multi-scrobbler for all your Apple devices that supports iPhone and Apple Watch, no mobile apps required.
Wait, what’s "scrobbling" again? That’s the automatic tracking and logging of the music you listen to so that your listening history can be used for personalized recommendations, charts, and sharing.

The short version of what’s new since April:
It’s not just your Mac anymore. Whatever you shazam on your iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch lands on your Mac via iCloud, and Listening Post keeps an eye on that. So, no iOS app to install! The Mac mic still listens locally too (vinyl, the radio, a YouTube tab), and no audio ever leaves the machine. (Both are optional features.)
It sends listens wherever you want. Last.fm, ListenBrainz (and compatibles like Koito), Maloja, Rocksky, or plain local CSV/JSONL files. Every channel is optional and independent — mix and match.
It does more than scrobble. Like tracks on Apple Music, Spotify or Deezer, post to Bluesky or Mastodon, or trigger a Shortcut.
Your history stays yours. Browse, search and export everything LP has ever heard. It lives in a local database on your machine: you share to services instead of depending on them. That’s the whole #DigitalSovereignty idea, and the reason this thing exists.
On pricing: the beta was free, and v2026.1.0 moves to a perpetual upgrade license — you buy a version and own it, no subscriptions, ever. The introductory price is €15. And because you’ve been on this list through the whole thing, here’s a thank-you: use BETABUDDY for 10% off through the end of June.
Grab it on my website, give it a spin, and just reply to this email with what’s good or what breaks. I read every message.
Thanks,
— Carlo
